Bug [2011 Build 6597] Automatic cleanup settings not saved.

Thread needs solution

In some situations, the setting for automatic cleanup is not saved, and automatic cleanup is left disabled.

My backup settings:

  • Backup Method: Incremental
  • Create full version after every 7 incremental versions.
  • Backup daily at 6AM.

When automatic cleanup is enabled and set to "delete version chains older than N days", the setting is not saved on closing the dialog, and automatic cleanup is disabled. I have tried 7, 8, 10, and 15 days.

When automatic cleanup is enabled and set to "store no more than N recent version chains", the setting is saved correctly, and automatic cleanup works properly.

I have not thoroughly tested this. I do not know if "keep size of the backup no more than N GB" shows this problem, I do not know if it is related to the number of days to keep vs the number of days to create a full version, and I have not tried any other combinations of settings.

The workaround is to use "store no more than N recent version chains".

Thanks!

The newer build 6696 is much better is saving this information.

But even in 6696, I have found the best way to save the proper task settings is to make the save from the Backup schemes tab. There are four tabs. If you make any adjustments in any of the other tabs, return to the Backup Schemes tab before clicking the OK button.

What works best for me is the option keep x number of backups and x number of chains. I prefer not to use the keep x number of days.

Suggest you start a new task and be careful of how you save the task.
