Can I clone, image existing c partiotion to new hdd?
Hi all,
I m trying to sort through all the info.
I have a HP dv7-series notebook with a WD 500 Gb ATA, 5400 rpm HDD. It has the C partition as well as the D recovery partition. These were the OEM set up. I resized the C portion to get free space and created F partition for my documents, pics and other files for ease of backing up.
I have been given a brand new WD 320 Gb ATA 7200 rpm HDD, I bought the drive caddy and for that cost I now have a second drive to put in my laptop.
My question is this, can I clone or image or copy the C partition (apx. 235 GB) which has my Vista 64 bit os and other programs as well as the D partition (apx.15 Gb) recovery to the new HDD (320 Gb) and be able to use this a the boot drive as if it were that all along. Also will I be able to utilize all 320 Gb for expansion of my os as well as other programs? (The F partition is 100 Gb, with the remainder of the drive apx. 150 Gb as free space.)
I have taken smaller and same size drives and cloned them without any issues, but this would be my first attemp going this way.
If all goes well I will then be able to wipe the original HDD and have the 500 Gb as storage for docs, pics and other files as well as back ups.
I have been reading conflicting threads. I have both ATI Home 2009 as well as DDS 10.0
I have complete set of recovery disks that I made when I got the computer as well as Acronis Bootable media.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GroverH guides rule. Head shoulders and ankles better than ANY guide or post acronis has produced. I wonder if acronis appreciates how many asses have been saved because of the great job GroverH did and how much poorer Acronis would be without him.
I have restored several HD's in my life and have used GroverH guides every time with 100% success. If I had to do another, I would reprint them again.
