Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive

Thread needs solution

I just installed Acronis True Image Home 2010 on my Windows 7 Home Premium laptop. The first thing I did after rebooting was to do a full backup of the hard drive which includes a recovery partition and the C: drive. After the backup was complete I tried to mount it to check that the files could be accessed. I got the error message "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive ".

The recovery partition mounted fine but not the C: drive.

I'm backing up to a Western Digital My Book World network drive attached directly to my router.

The backup claims that it was successful and it did verify but I don't trust it. I had a prior version of True Image on my XP system and the backup that claimed to be good wouldn't restore and I had to either reformat and start over again or by a new PC and start over - I went with the laptop. I have used True Image successfully in the past but always kept my most critical files backed up on CD also just in case Acronis did fail.

I would like to know if there is a resolution to this problem while I can still return it if it isn't compatible with my system.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Ron,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
To give the issue a closer investigation could you please copy the archive from your network drive to external or internal hard drive and try to mount the archive? This will help to localize the issue, whether it's related to network problems or the program is unable to mount the archive at all.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
