Cannot Install/Remove.
Greetings everyone.
I was planning on cloning my hard drive to a another one - using acronis true image 12.
I was trying to install it - but I get the error of simply having a newer version installed. The odd part is that I unistalled the program a year ago. Well I proceed to sift through my "add/remove programs" I locate it and I cannot remove it!
I try to click remove but I got the following error - "invalid program name/contents" followed by "Fatal error during installation".
I am baffled as to how this has happened - I search for many hours trying all sorts of fixes - such as trying to get rid of the entries and using a program called "Add/Remove program cleaner", and other registry editing.
As a result of my "messing" about I now no longer have the option of even clicking the uninstall button on the add/remove programs in the control panel.
Any help?
Thanks.

Hello A Sharma and Scott,
Let me comment this situation.
Scott is correct, you should try removing the product using Acronis CleanUP Utility, because there are some traces from an old version in your PC - that's why you cannot install the product. I assume that you're using Acronis True Image Home 2010, is that correct?
If yes, please check this article for the description on how to uninstall the product.
Please let us know whether it resolves the issue you experience.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.

If you use Powertools to search for all occurences of, say, "trueimage," in keys and values and you delete them, then all keys and values containing "trueimage" will be gone from the registry -- wioth the possible exception of current session currentuser strings recording history, which can also be deleted but are basically inocuous. If you do that with powertools and still have keys or values containing "trueimage" then you have some other problem going on that isn't particularly related to trueimage or powertools -- a prob that's preventing your registry changes from being saved, although that's a new one to me. Win does keep a backup copy of the registry to use to restore the original if it becomes invalid, but that only happens upon reboot in rare cases where the registry has some other problem.
I'd try the registry scrubbing again and see if you can't get a clean registry; it shouldn't be a complicated or dificult thing to do, although it can be a bit time consuming.

Hello A Sharma,
Thank you for posting.
It looks like the previous installation has been corrupted. You may remove the traces from the system manually. You can install the previous version again (you should register the license on our web site to get the access to the installation file, you can learn more on how to do it here). Launch Acronis True Image Home 2009 installation file and select either Install or Repair option. Wait for the process to be completed, reboot the computer and uninstall the program using Cleanup utility.
After that install Acronis True Image Home 2010.
Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.

Make things easy on yourself, run msconfig.exe and disable all non-MS services and all startup progs. reboot then do your uninstals and scrubs, then your instal, then use msconfig to return to normal startup. Not usually necessary but for an extra copule of boots, it can avoid unnecessary conflicts during the uninstal/instal procedures.
