Cannot mount/explore password protected backup (corrupt error), but non-protected backups are fine

Thread needs solution

I looked through the forums and only one previous post seemed to be promising.

The issue:

I had a few files I lost, all of which were on old backups (from before I wiped and reinstalled windows from scratch).  I thought I had placed them all on an external drive, but when it became clear I did forget a few files I sighed that I had backed up and restored.  The non-password protected back-ups, no problem.  The password protected, Acronis reports that the backup is corrupt, or locked etc.

I did double check the permissions, all are fine, changed them, rebooted, tried again, copied them to another directory etc. . .no luck.

Issue only affects password protected backups, and at no point am I asked for my password (which I do have).

Anyone seen this with password protected tib before?

Thank you in advance for any help.
