Can't add date to backup file

Thread needs solution

No matter what I do I can't add date to a full backup (tib) file.
I've tried: Destination - Browse - Add Date, but still only get the filename: Local disk (C)
Any help appreciated.

When you see the entry box for the file name, just type "Backup_@date@_"
- You can replace the _ by any sign you want,
- You can put the @date@ tag anywhere you want.
- Make sure that the end of the backup name is a non digit character to avoid issues in certain corner cases.

Many thanks Pat L, that's fixed it.

Fairly sure I wouldn't have fathomed that on my own.
Don't recall seeing any reference to: "Backup_@date@_" in the guide.

Thanks again.

Extracts are from link below. Figure 3 below (figure 8 inside the link) is the importan illustration of how to control the actual name assigned to be the backup file.

You may find these helpful. The file naming has several options.

Assign backup file name as below.

Same problem. I purchased ATIH 2012 Plus and the problem started. I thought your solution was going to work because I had a digit as the last position on the backup name. I removed it and entered the name 'backup_' then selected 'add date' as the option. However when the backup started and the name assigned by the program was 'backup_', the same name I entered without the date.
Is there a problem with the 2012 version 0f ATIH?

Type the tag in. I think the pull down menu is just to show you what to type, and doesn't insert anything.... Not sure if this is by design or a bug (looks like the latter if you ask me).

I did as you suggested. Did not work, Pat.
This was my second backup today. The first one returned '_backup_'.
The second one returned '_backup_2' or '_backup_(2)', whatever.
The point is the date did not get added.

Remember, the task name and the name assigned to the backup file is two separate functions. The name assigned to the backup file can only be assigned from within the storage folder--not from the task name location.--as shown in post #3 above. If added manually, the variable name must be added from within the storage folder when backup file name is assigned--not as part of the task name. Clicking on the variable as part of the backup file name (as shown in post #3) works for 2012.

The date variable will not show in the task name--even when the date variable actually appears as part of the backup file name.

Follow these instructions.

I have tried most of the suggestions and read some of the references.I don't need to know why or how the people at Acronis have lost their way. I'm a simple user that made the mistake of upgrading from ATIH2011 to ATIH2012 and lost an easy way to add dates to the backups in the process. And I paid $29 for this privilege, All I need is a STEP by STEP on HOW to add a date to my backups and NOT some lengthy explanation. I am trying to make 'Disk_Image_date' look like it should but no matter what, I always get 'Disk_Image_2' or 3 or 4 instead of a date .
K.I.S.S. is what I want.

It's a bug! I have two computers both running same True Image 2013 program (both with Plus Package) - both installed from same download. One shows the arrow and allows options of adding file name, date, etc., the other has NO SUCH OPTION and does NOT append any of this info - even with ampersand ("@") tags manually added. By the way, the additional licenses for Plus Package (have 4 total licenses for TI 2013 and 4 total licenses for TI 2013 Plus Pacakge) are apparently a waste of money at $30 bucks a pop as, unlike TI 2013, one is never asked to enter the Serial No. for Plus Packages on any additional installs to other computers (which DOES install the Plus Pack) - wasted $90 bucks - no info about this on the site! Get it together Acronis... the information about file name, create date and time, etc. is CRITICAL to keeping straight all my various backups of numerous computers, with different partitions, schemes, etc. And... by the way "GroverH", clicking the "Switch to disk mode" option has no impact on this.

It's NOT a bug! [smile]... Okay, just a confusing interface folks. The switches (i.e. the "@ tags") can only be added When You Select The DESTINATION of the backup (i.e. you name the file using the "Destination" dialogue box), at which point the drop-down arrow DOES appear to the right of the file name - click it before you finish naming the backup name (i.e. the name of the file you are creating on the destination drive for your backup) and you can then add the "@ tags". The other "file name" dialogue box (I'll call it the "OFN" - to distinguish it here from the "Destination File Name" has No Feature for adding "@ tags" but, mysteriously, "inherits" the @ tags (after they are added in the DESTINATION file name dialogue). Indicating the file name using the "Destination" dialogue box also does the following: 1) any file name previously typed in the OFN dialogue is changed to the name in the Destination dialogu box, and; 2) the @ tags DO get added to the file name. Confusing? Yes!
Hint: Just use the "Destination" dialogue box to name your files (where the @ tags ARE available) - forget the other box - it's useless if you want to use the @ tags (and will be overwritten by anything later typed in the Destination dialogue box. Get it?

As you and I have stated, the "Switch to disk mode" is a switch to assure that the backup will contain all partition within the backup. The name assigned to any backup file is totally controlled from within the destination folder--not from within the task name.

Is the assigning of a backup confusing? Absolutely!. I agree with you which is why I tried to help others with my guide shown in my guide as figure8 in the link below
