cant backup email

Thread needs solution

ATIH 2011 build 6597 and Outlook 2010. I am trying to backup email and I get the following message:

Error    12/12/2010 6:18:26 AM    Failed to back up file or folder

'Microsoft Outlook:/Profiles/Outlook/7A97B07DD60CF948BD09E1E5990E5A05/'.

   Tag = 0x3A4FB2E0331C3BE8
Access denied. (0x580007)
   Tag = 0x3B78A69017EB09FB: None

I have put in my credentials and when I go back later to edit them they are not there. I am not asked for credentials when I run it manually (non scheduled). Acronis say this issue is closed. Anyone else getting this problem?

I posted this in another thread as well but I thought it might help you (hopefully) and I thought you might miss the other post. The access denied appears because of the scheduled backups. If it is performed manually the error will not appear at least it is that way in my experience and it seems it has been in yours.

Hello
I thought I would post a resolution that has worked for me regarding this issue. It is a work around but it seems to work fine. I have Outlook 2007 and True Image Home 2011. My operating system is W7 64x
1. Create the email backup within Acronis but do not schedule backups.
2. Right click on the backup go to more and create a shortcut. The backup should be placed on the desktop.
3. Click start and type task scheduler. Select the schedule task link at the top.
4. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/25046/schedule-synctoy-to-run-automatical... (This is a link that explains how to auto start a program.)
5. The link shows how to start synctoy. The synctoy references will have to be replaced with the info contained in the shortcut you created on the desktop earlier. You can name the scheduled task anything you want.
6. THIS IS IMPORTANT. When creating the new action under the actions tab it is critical to cut and paste the path everything (including "" marks) but do not cut and paste anything after the last " mark. This path is obtained by right clicking on the shortcut - click properties - under the shortcut tab see target.
7. Cut and paste everything after the last " mark in the add arguments section just under the path section. This will allow the backup to run and not just open the program.
8. On the general tab of the scheduler you will need to click (Run only when user is logged on) and run with highest privileges. NOTE: If run with highest privileges is not checked the backup may not run automatically because the program may ask for permission to open.
9. Finally schedule the trigger to run how often you like. I had mine on every five minutes for a while just to insure that it was working.

Notes: I know that the directions are terrible but if you google a little while you can find enough information in a good format to do what I am talking about. This basically tricks True Image into thinking it was a manual command that requested the backup. True Image 2011 seems to work fine with Outlook open if it thinks there was a manual command that initiated the backup. I have no idea why?
I hope this is a help to others. I googled for a long time and mixed in a little trial and error before I figured out a solution that worked for me.

Regards :-)

Brian,
thanks, I will look into your suggestions.

When I look at my first post again I can see that I did not make myself clear. Backing up email by any method does not work for me at all using Acronis TIH 2011. To complete the record, I am running Win 7 32 bit Pro.

Oh - Ok
I haven't had a total failure of any kind so I wouldn't know what might be causing that.
I will say that during the process of trying to figure out the best way to backup my email I at one point set up a completely manual system.
I went to the files & folders section and drilled down to all my pst files and just backed them up manually. I then set up a schedule for the manual pst backup. Finally I settled on the method I noted in my prior post.
Let us know if you solve the problem and what exactly was happening.

Regards
Brian

For a few years I have been backing up the folder that includes the PST file(s) in the same way that you have done. I also backup other Outlook related files, such as the Signature folders and other configuration folders. It would be very useful to have the "Email" backup working as it seems to include registry settings too.
