Did you edit the BIOS to enable boot from USB?

Yes, I believe so. Like I said, I'll see reference to Acronis;

"Starting Acronis Loader. . ."

But then I get a beep and this message;

"Acronis Loader fatal error: Boot drive (partition) not found.
Press [Enter] to try to boot your OS. . . "

Are we talking Windows 8.1 or UEFI isses?
You may have to change t he bios to boot from a legacy mode.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I now use a DVD as rescue media. If my computer crashes, I boot from the dvd, browse for my "backup" on my usb HDD and recover my disk. My new computer does not have a cd/dvd so I wanted to be able to perform the same function using a 2 GB flash drive.

One thing for certain. When booting to a usb flash drive in order to load the TrueImage Recovery CD, you will need at bootup, to go into the BIOS and select the specific usb device as the boot device so the usb stick will boot into TrueImage. (Be careful as there is also a time limit that the TI menu is displayed before rebooting backup into Windows.)

On some systems, you may also have to change a BIOS SETTING to allow booting in legacy mode.

When finished with TrueImage, on next boot, you will need to go back into the BIOS and undo the usb as the boot device and reselect your Windows as the new boot device. If the system was booted into legacy mode, you may also additionally have to return the bios to disable the legacy mde.

I use USB memory stick for images, advice above seems sound, but tips:
- some combinations of o/s, computer's hardware, and USB stick will not work to make an image (WinXPPro/w, Dell, and Duracell for example).
- you have to have the USB stick plugged in before starting TIH, especially if you've tried a different stick, as TIH does not refresh correctly

Oh, I add that a symptom of trouble is that TIH will not accept checkbox selection to make media bootable.
