Thread needs solution

When I turn on Try & Decide mode it freezes on the "starting Try & Decide mode. This may take several minutes". It used to work.

Lyle,

Try to reinstall the software.

Is the following service running: Acronis Nonstop Backup Service?

Check by typing and launching services.msc in the search/run box.

Did you try to uninstall, reboot and reinstall or did you just reinstall on top of the existing?

Lyle,

Did you connect a new disk to the system that was not there before, or did you change any BIOS settings?

I am trying to figure what has changed that has made T&D stop working...

Hard drive hasn't changed, haven't done anything in the bios.
I can't think of anything that has changed.

Lyle,

Some things to try if they are relevant to you:
- disable the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and try again,
- try to protect only the C:\system partition

Beyond that, I think you will need Acronis support to analyze your system report and process configuration to give you a definite answer...

It's all very well packaging this product with parts which are incompatable with each other, ie 'startup recovery manager' and 'try and decide' but you would think there would be instruction how to turn it off or a tick box to switch it off. Confusing and inconvenient incompatible bundle, not fully thought out on this occasion.

Do not attempt to use ATI for anything other than disk imaging, i.e. stay away from try & decide, secure zones, auto-delete of image files, encrypted backups, and so on. The batch files I posted do all the backup you'll ever need and use ATI only for imaging.

See http://forum.acronis.com/forum/27989 .

Thanks GoldT. I already wrote a secure zone but not used it yet so suppose could delete. Having Acronis on the hard drive seems a good idea though in case the drive is unbootable by other means, so data can be saved? I did wonder with the secure zone how big and is it wasteful. Partitioning can be hard to get right, thank goodness for Parted Magic! which can actually shift things along, even if slowly. Not an issue with such big drives these days though till we all change to smaller SSD which I look forward to when prices shrink.

Try-and-Decide won't work for me at all. It thinks Nonstop backup is running, which is false.

Quite dissapointing that this suite is so imperfect ... and ATI2012 sounds as bad or worse!

Martin,

When you launch try&Decide there is a pop up window that reminds you that both cannot work at the same time. This windows appears even if you don't have NSB on. A bit confusing, but harmless.

Thanks for the info Pat .. however, with all I read on the forum, I am not confident to use it at all. I will use Windows System Restore points.
