Can't uninstall True Image 2013

Thread needs solution

I have just bought a new PC and have installed Windows 8.1 and all the applications which worked on my previous PC, also running Windows 8.1. This includes Acronis True Image 2013, which is working happily on my laptop and tablet. It also worked on my previous Win 8.1 PC, I think in compatibility mode. However, it will not now work in any mode on my new PC and I cannot uninstall it. It uninstalls and then requires a restart, which fails. The only way I can then get the computer to start is by going into Restore, which restores also the True Image I have just uninstalled.

I have downloaded a trial version of True Image 2015 which installs OK but requires a restart to complete and I have the same problem - the computer won't start, goes into restore and removes True Image 2015.

Any helpful suggetions please.

Greetings,

Please use the clean up utility and follow all steps.

There is one for 2015 as well. I would run it too, and restart before reinstalling 2015. Right now you have two versions partially installed and neither will work.

I would recommend using Acronis 2014 or later for Windows 8/8.1

Many thanks for your help, but I still have problems:
1. Uninstall using add/remove programs apears to remove True Image 13 but won't let windows restart.

2. I can't use ''Tools and Utilities'' as I can't start True Image 13. It has compatibility issues which are not solved by running it in compatibility mode. So I can't do any of the deactivation required before using the Clean up Utility.

3. At the moment I don't have two versions installed as the only way I could start Windows was by running Restore, which has the effect of removing Version 15.

4. I currently have a free third party backup program installed alongside the unuseable True image 13 and this works fine. However, I would rather use True image, which I have used for years without problem.

I would welcome any further suggestions.

Greetings,
Thanks for the update on your status and progress. Upgrading from an earlier OS with these types of features installed is risky.

What utilities do you still have installed / activated??

ASR - F11
ASZ - Secure Zone

Please do this... Start your system from a Acronis Boot CD. It should allow you to deactivate Acronis Start Up Recovery Manager and the Secure Zone if present. A burnable .iso can be downloaded free from you Acronis User Acct.

Thanks for your continuing interest but this is getting ridiculously complicated. I have a True Image boot disc and it appears that Start Up Recovery Manager and Secure Zone are not active. I actually ended up creating a Secure Zone and then deleting it. After another attempt to delete True Image 13 I am now in the process of restoring Windows to an earlier date as it refused, as usual, to start after the deletion. This is annoying as it still leaves True Image in place and I have to reinstall a million Windows Updates.

Not sure what you mean by utilities installed. If you mean Acronis, I have only True Image 2013 and Acronis Disc Director 2011 installed. I have never had any trouble with the latter and have always got the former to work in Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode. By the way, although I am now using a new PC tower, The Windows 8.1 is the identical version I was running on my last PC where I had no problem with True Image.

Maybe it's time to give up and reinstall the Paragon program which works OK.

1. After uninstalling the software using Programs & Features you are unable to restart. Why? What error do you see, what is precluding you from restarting?

2. You do not need to access the software or try to disable features you do not have activated if they are not present. I mentioned this in my reply. Based on your statement, "I can't use ''Tools and Utilities'' as I can't start True Image 13. It has compatibility issues which are not solved by running it in compatibility mode. So I can't do any of the deactivation required before using the Clean up Utility"..

Yes, from my standpoint it appeared you could not run the utility because you didn't have a way to deactivate features. I provided a solution. Boot CD, but you don't have these features enabled, so there is no need to do this. The utility instructions state "if enabled"

3. 2015 has been removed by reverting the system to a previous date/time (system restore).... so the question remains, did you run the 2013 Clean Up Utility? It will remove the software and prompt you to restart. Skipping steps will cause problems on restart.

4. Lets stay on task and get TI uninstalled before moving to another software. This will put you and your system in a better place from a integrity standpoint.

This should not be ridiculously complicated. If you want to move to another computer and abandon solving the first problem before "moving on" that's fine. If you'd like help with the other system, please run the clean up utility and report those results. If you are unable to complete a step, because you don't have a feature enabled or it does not apply in your case, move to the next step. Please follow the instructions completely. Your system my not restart correctly until you follow all the steps in the instructions. This will remove 2013. If not done (skipping steps) problems on restart can result requiring time consuming restores. Skipping steps and/or reverting to a previous restore point is not part of using the tool.

Success!! It seems I did not actually use the clean up utility. it sort of got lost in all the other stuff it was asking me to do before using it. I found the link to the utility, downloaded it and it worked. It also uninstalled my Disk Director, but I have reinstalled that OK. I downloaded a trial version of True Image 2015 and this is working OK also. I think I have a minor problem in that I tried to download an upgrade to True Image 2015, but I think I have actually installed a full version. I will have to sort this out later. I actually tried to buy the upgrade but acronis seemed to be unable to accept payment as there appeared to be nothing in my basket. Why does everthing with Acronis have to be so difficult. Anyway, don't worry about it. Thank you for your help in sorting out the original problem.

Hi slaydeuk,
That's great to hear. We're happy to help you move forward if you wish.
