Cleaning up backups in TI2014

Thread needs solution

After fretting over my backups for a long time, I finally gave in to the pressures of other things, and moved on, leaving Acronis to pretty much handle itself backing things up and pretty much went to "set it and forget it." However, recently, I noticed that my destination drives were getting fuller and fuller. I realized some backups had even failed, but I didn't know it. I had changed my email passwords a while back, and forgotten to change them in TI2014. Oops, all my warnings were going in the bit bucket.

So I open up Acronis for the first time in months and discover that some backup routines are not cleaning up after themselves properly. My backups are differential, with a full backup after two diffs. The cleanup is set to delete chains older than 27 days. Ideally this creates a full backup every week with two differentials later that week, then deletes anything over three weeks old.

So since the backup failed this morning, I ran it manually.

See backkup_folder.png for screen shot of what my directory looks like right now. I think I'm good to go, except I've got some that appear to be older than should be in there. So I look at the restore options, but it seems to be only aware of the one I made today, none of the others.

I'm thinking I need to start over in a new folder with a new routine and manually delete for a few weeks until it gets back on track. Any other ideas or suggestions?

You are thinking right!

Hi Les,
Users seem to have trouble with the "elapsed days" options. Instead.--

Create a new task using the GH13 as the example for the backup scheme except change the "store 2 recent chains" to 3 chains which should keep 3 weeks assuming that 1 full plus 2 diff consumes a week.

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme. 2 Diff, Keep 2 chains. The 2-2 is user choice.

You should be able to set this and make no later changes and it should work without issues.
The old task will need to be review and manual deletions (within the program as below) of old backups to keep from getting a disk full message. You can delete either the entire chain or delete diff only.

Reminder: the program creates the replacement full before deleting the old full so be sure and allow space for the extra full.

Grover, as usual, thanks. However, I can't manually delete the within the program as even though the program has several backups in the directory, it doesn't seem to recognize the older backups, only today's. See http://screencast.com/t/pHVNYTQooH

I'm thinking I need to delete the ones it can see manually from Windows as they grow older, then manually delete today's from within TI once it's ready to go. What do you think?

If backups not listed on main menu, then easiest way is to delete via Windows explorer.

It is possible to added these to your menu as per below and delete from within the program, if you wish to keep the history file correct. Try one chain this way just for kicks.

OK, tried to delete one of those, but got this message: More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base. So, looks like I will be deleting manually from Windows after all.
