Clone Disk Stuck at "Less than 1 minute" for an hour

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I recently purchased the Acronis True Image 2013 in order to clone a couple disks that were running low on space in my WHS. It estimated teh clone to take about 2 1/2 hours, it's now been about 4 hours and the progress window has been showing "less than 1 minute" for the last hour or so.

Looking at the task manager, it is showing the True Image as running and not "Not Responding" so I assume it is still doing something, how long should I let it go before getting concerned it's more than just a messed up time remaining timer?

Thanks,

PJ

How long is a piece of string?

I cannot know if that is an unreasonable time without knowing how much data are on the drive.
It also depends upon the nature of the data (a common assortment of user data files is more compressable, and therefore takes less time to transfer, than already compressed files such as MP3 or video).
Also, the connection between source and target drives can make a big difference.

Well... regardless of those things.. Less than 1 minute should be... Less than a minute. :)

With that said...

The source disk is a 1tb drive connected to a 3gb SATA connection on the MB
The Destination disk is a 2tb drive connected to a 2nd SATA connection on the MB.

The source is a 90% full WHS drive with mainly music and movies on it.

Update on the issue: I did get a read error after about 3 hours. I ingored it and we are back to the Less than a minute. So at least it means it's doing something... at least I hope so.

PJ,

If you got an error, I think the best thing to do is to run chkdsk /r on both disks as it sounds as though there is either a sector or a set of CRC's that True Image is having trouble with. Clearning any underlying disk problems may solve the problem.

Yep, as Colin says the first step is to check both disks.

As for transfer time, a backup of 900 GB of uncompressable music and movies will take a long time. When I do a full backup of all my partitions, it's just over 500 GB and mostly uncompressable music. It takes about 5 hours over USB 3.0 not including validation.

Ignore the time remaining countdown, as it is always inaccurate.
