Clone of Drive C will not boot
Hi,
I used True Image 2010 to clone my boot Drive C on a Dell 490 workstation. The original boot drive is a Western Digital 160 GB Raptor, and I'm cloning to an identical drive. There are no jumpers on either drive. The clone seems to go fine. But when I replace the original boot drive with the clone (the original drive isn't connected) the system just goes into diagnostics and will not boot. I tried cloning to a 300GB WD Velociraptor drive and it launches windows but gives a "plug and play" error and won't boot. (Again the regular boot drive is disconnected).
How can I make a workable clone that I can boot from?
Thanks.

Try performing a reverse clone.
Remove the source disk and place it in an alternate location.
Mount the blank source disk in the same position and connector as original.
Boot from the TI Rescue CD and perform the clone. Choose identical match if you have such an option rather than manual or proportional.
Keep any hidden or diagnostic partitions the same size on the clone.
Remove the source before first bootup.

Hmmm…
Whenever I hear about manufacturer like DELL, I do feel comfortable about their strategies to place hidden partitions or test the hardware by serial numbers.
Is the cone connected in the same way like the original drive, and does the BIOS recognizes it correctly?
Anyway, the fact about the Velociraptor is interesting. »it launches windows but gives a "plug and play" error and won't boot.« How does this error comes up, which Windows brings it up?
To assume the 1st used 160GB drive as defective is an idea I do not like, but since the Velociraptor boots up and starts WIN, that may be fact…
