Clone Operation Failed

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2011 on my custom built Windows Vista machine.

I need to clone my old C:\ hdd SATA to a new 1.0TB Western Digital SATA drive. I am using a Thermaltake blacx to connect my new hdd via USB to my computer, so that (hopefully) after it clones I can simply replace the old drive with the new. However, using Acronis straight off the Windows OS it never actually proceeds with the clone, instead closing the program and telling me I need to reboot. Repeat the process and nothing happens. So I used the Acronis boot disk and now I simply get a 'Clone Operation Failed' error. I've searched around the web for solutions to no avail.

My new drive is currenly unallocated as I simply want to clone my C:\ short sweet and simple.

My preference would be to do a full backup (all partitions) and then restore the backup as per item 1 in this guide. Other items in the guide may be of interest as well.

If you wish to clone,
My suggestion would be to use the CD for the clone
Place the source disk in the BlackX unit.
Place the 1 TB inside the computer
boot from the CD
As you tried once and failed, I would use the Add disk option on the CD to delete the partitions again or clear the new disk of the failed entries. Without rebooting
Run the Clone again but use the Manual option and use the manual as is" move method. As your configuration is unknown to me, I would suggest you not use the Automatic option but clone using the "as is" option.

After completion, shutdown, remove the docking unit and reboot. If it boots correctly without any issues, we can correct the unallocated space easily later once you post a picture of the new disk as shown in the Window Disk Management graphic view.

I have a couple different BlacX and they work really well both as USB and eSata.
