CLONE - Reboots into normal Windows instead of clone

Thread needs solution

Clone mode procedes normally, allows selection source drive then destination drive, asks OK to overwrite, asks to restart - but then it reboots into regular windows instead of cloning.

I cloned the same source disk a week ago.  Today, to another destination disk, it won't clone.

I removed other USB drives on a second attempt, didn't solve issue.  Third attempt later, after unplugging everythng and reconnecting, also failed.

Help needed, please.

Using Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607).

Joro, are you starting the clone from within Windows 10 - it sounds like you are?

The recommended method for cloning is to always use the Acronis bootable Rescue Media and to ensure that you start this in exactly the same boot mode as Windows 10 uses.  See webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS for checking how Windows boots.

See KB documents: 48386: Acronis True Image 2015: Cloning Disks and  56634: Acronis True Image: Cloning Disks where the second document also has a video tutorial of the process.

Thanks, Steve, your suggestion and links are much appreciated.

I've been using TIH (and before that Migrate Easy) for over six years and never used the Rescue Media.  I've always tried to save on unneeded steps, so starting TIH within Windows always seemed more efficient than rebooting to the Rescue Media CD first.

Last week I cloned the same source drive that failedto clone yesterday, and that clone went perfectly. It seems strange that a week later, with no new applications or upgrades installed, TIH no longer goes into the clone mode after rebooting.

I have the Rescue Media from the initial installation and tomorrow I'll try to clone the drive using that.

(My machine is EUFI )

While I was looking for my Rescue disk, I rebooted following an adjustment and I used F12 to open the boot menu this time.  Among the standard options was Acronis media, which I'd never seen before.  When I selected that one, it booted to start the previously interrupted clone.  It just finished the cloning process. Tomorrow I'm going to test that cloned disk to verify that it is a valid clone.

Joro, thanks for the update, I suspect that this is down to UEFI in part and the F12 ensures that you are picking the correct boot mode for the Acronis media environment.
