Cloning from 1 USB connected HDD to another USB connected HDD fails

Thread needs solution

I am uing True Image 2011, the most recent version.
PC is running Vista
I am attempting to CLONE one USB-connected-to-PC 1TB HDD to another USB-connected-to PC (via an ext HDD dock) 1.5TB HDD.
Both are basic volumes.
Using TI from within windows, the clone operation fails.

The log says:
Failed to prepare operations. Error code 9 'File system error is found' with extended code 458.777 'file record corrupt'
The event code is
0x000A0001+0x00070019

I have yet to try booting the Acronis recovery CD and attempting to clone from there, but I am curious as to why it wont work from within windows.

For cloning, it is better to get windows out of the process. Cloning from the recovery CD does that.

Given the error code, you should run chkdsk /r on each disk.

Also, since you clone to a bigger disk, choose the manual cloning method so that you can control which partition is resized. Do not resize an partition that is not C:\system or a user partition you created.

I want to clone the HDD (IDE - 40GB) of my Canon copier. This HDD is divided into 10 partitions: 1 FAT32+ 1 extended with 9 logic partitions FAT16 into.
I have made an attempt with WinXP and the 2 HDD connected on USB (source IDE - 40GB, target IDE-80GB), with HDClone 4.1 without success. It looked working properly, but after hours of process, the target disk was blank and Thouthand of read error was signaled by the software. What do you think of this issue ? Thanks for reply.

I am not familiar with HDClone 4.1... Maybe other users are, but this is an Acronis forum...

Exactly, the question is : will it be possible with Acronis True Image Home 2012 ? Do you provide a trial version ?

Robert,

If you try 2012, do the cloning from the recovery CD.

Darn, that's right. I stand corrected. Thanks!
