Cloning Disk Choice Error
I just installed ATIH 2012 which I bought back in 2 months ago. Seeing the error: "Disk doesn't have BIOS number" with build 6131 when trying to clone Disk 1 to Disk 2, I downloaded & installed build 6154 hoping to fix that problem. Now, when trying to clone the same disks, I only get the choice of Disk 1 (not Disk 2) as "destination" disk (same as the source disk) !!! --> see attached JPG. Disk 1's data is smaller than Disk 2's capacity.
Obviously, Acronis offers support for 30 days after purchase, not activation. So I can't even ask them about this bug (great support !). Cloning always worked perfectly before version 2012. What's happening with them?
Has anyone an idea of what going on regarding this issue?
Thanks,
Pat

It looks like ATI doesn't see your RAID set up properly. I assume you are using the recovery CD to do the clone (right thing to do). That the Linux-based recovery CD doesn't see your RAID is not surprising. You would have to upgrade to the Plus Pack (a paid-for add-on) to produce a WinPE-based recovery CD. This will use Windows drivers and that has a much better chance of seeing your disks properly.

Thanks for the response.
Actually, I'm using windows 7 home premium and trying to clone a non-system disk to another. In theory no reboot is required, just a dismount.
I didn't try cloning using the rescue disk yet. All this worked fine in previous versions of Acronis without the boot disk.
The problem seems to be related to the "disk doesn't have BIOS number" error message.
And I did purchase the Plus Pack 2012, and reinstalled ATIH 2012, rebooted, uninstalled ATIH 2011 prior to, etc.
It hurts my feeling that I may have to pay to ask Acronis why their software is not working.

I tried cloning the Raid 5 disk using Acronis Rescue Disk Utilities, and it does not recognizes the Disks as a Raid 5 array. So that option is off the table.

Patrick,
In theory, Cloning should work without problem from Windows. As you can see on this forum, this is not always the case. Even if ATI was to see your disks properly, you should still do it from the recovery CD.
All the advanced users of this software recommend to clone from the CD.
Acronis Imaging software relies on drivers that are low-level, very close to the hardware, bypassing Windows hardware abstration layer. Hardware support is always an possible issue.
If the CD doesn't see your disks properly, you have to try the Plus Pack or some other cloning software.

Thank you very much for your response, Pat,
I understand you points, however I did this cloning numerous times the same way with versions 2011 and previous without any problem. Never had to use a bootable CD before.
So I have to contact Acronis Technical Support to understand why this is happening then.
Thanks,
Pat

Acronis was nice enough to provide me with free chat support as I just installed the software.
Their senior technician believes this error is linked to the fact that I want to clone a Raid disk. He did not make any test to confirm that.
Apparently, ATIH never did support the cloning of RAID drives, even if I did so for the last 10 years using many of their previous versions.
So for now, I have no choice but to accept to backup my disks using their backup utility, not cloning. Very disappointed about that.

I have had a very similar problem with 2012, by the time I realized that I had a problem w/12 any conversation with Acronis support expired. I just really want to use cloning but when I tried to use any other sub set they will not load either. I have been an ardent supporter of Acronis from 2009 w/7 registered products. If this is what happens I guess this will be my last. Fortunately I did a clone prior to the 2012 install as I'm dead in the water now. Thanks Acronis for the wasted hour’s tiring to install and re install 2012.

tom,
Please explain your problem as it relates to your system. Is raid involved?
The clone works best when done from the CD and the target is installed inside the computer.
The 2009 version does not support Windows 7 but can be used to clone or other CD functions.

Tom,
I answered in your other thread post, but if you could answer the questions in this one then all cloning problems will be in the one thread.

Hello everyone,
Thank you very much for your comments and your help, Pat, Grover and Colin.
Thank you very much for your feedback about our Support policy, I have forwarded it to our Management team via Acronis Customer Listening System. You can always contact our Management team directly by sending an e-mail to managers@acronis.com
Patrick, Acronis True Image 2012 Home supports regular RAID. You can always take a look at this Knowledge Base article for more information. It is possible, the bootable media does not have the drivers for this specific hardware. In any case, if this turns out to be an issue with our software we will refund the support fee.
Tom, could you let us know more about this issue so that we can have a better picture of it.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.
