Cloning a drive with errors on it

Thread needs solution

Hello

I would like to know what will happen if the source drive contains error (bad sectors, etc). When writing to the target drive, are the errors ignored, corrected or something.

I think those errors were caused with some system (Win 7 32bit) freeze lately. I already executed chkdisk.

I Just hope my brand new cloned disk will not have errors like the source !

It is a data drive (not system) but I prefer to clone instead of copying because the date of folder creation are preserved (and I need the original folder date...).

I also have this message from the source drive with exclamation mark in SMART report "Reallocated Sector Count 36 100 100 1"

Thanks for your help

Its recommended to run chkdsk /r on your drive first. See http://kb.acronis.com/content/1871 for more information.

Thanks for the link !

Is it the same to clone a HDD as restoring a backup ?

Also, I want to clone a 1 Tera HDD (with 2 partitions on it) to a 1.5 Tera hdd, If I've read right, this will resolve my problem !?

Thanks again for your help and sorry for my bad english !

No cloning and restoring a backup are two different functions. Cloning makes an exact copy of your existing disk and places it on a new disk. Restoring a backup can be done to the same disk it was made from or to new replacement disk. Having a backup allows you to restore individual files and folders if needed rather than perform a complete restore. See Grover's index http://forum.acronis.com/forum/3426 section 7 for some guides on cloning and restoring backups.

In fact, I use the XYplorer program and I discovered that I can backup files from one HDD to another without losing any date of creation and so on.

It will be much easier and safer I think.

Thanks again for your help !
