Cloning System Restore Partition (HP Laptop)

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to clone a laptop which has a 20GB system restore partition. When I clone to the new SSD it says that the partition is almost full and a notification pops up every 5 minutes. I tried to shrink the main windows partition and add 5GB to the system restore partition, but then the computer says the partition can't be found (His laptop blue screens and needs to be restored). Is there any way to expand the partition? :-)
Thanks

Hello Justin,
Something doesn't sound right. An OEM restore partition shouldn't be 20GB. Or are you saying you have a 20GB Secure Zone partition populated with Acronis Back Ups?

Changing the sizes of OEM partitions might change the offset or places where the boot files are expecting there to be data required for booting the machine.

You haven't told us much about the hardware. Disk structure, partitioning scheme, formatting, or what version/build of ATIH you are working with. Are you using bootable media or attempting to clone in windows? Also, did you put the target disk in the place of the current disk prior to clone attempt?

Instead of cloning, it might be best to perform a full disk image back up and restore the partitions one at a time in the order they currently occupy on the source drive. Let start here. The more information you provide, the easier it will be for us to assist you.

It's a HP Pavilion 15-p100dx, the 20gb partition is the OEM partition from HP. I'm using Acronis True Image 2014 from a USB flash drive. I'm cloning a 750GB bootable (it blue screens, but I'm trying to factory reset the SSD anyways) hard drive to a 256GB SSD.

I don't quite understand "Instead of cloning, it might be best to perform a full disk image back up and restore the partitions one at a time in the order they currently occupy on the source drive." I'm fairly new to Acronis so I have no idea how that would work.
