Cloning v backup restore

Thread needs solution

I need to send my laptop off for warranty service. I wanted to send it in the original state (no added programs or data). I thought I could clone it to my WD MyBook and when it is returned I could put everything back on. When I try to clone it the destination disk (MyBook) is greyed out. So I guess this is not an option from a laptop. Will Backup and restore put everything back on in operable condition? Any help is greatly appreciated

It is recommended that you perform a Disk Mode backup and Restore instead of a Clone. See step 3. for creating a Disk Mode backup in this link:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#…

If you must Clone then here are links that give details for that process for a laptop:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/index.html#…

Full run down of Clone procedure, read thoroughly:

Lastly, do not attempt Clone from the installed ATI app in Windows. If you have not done so already create a Rescue Boot Media disk and use it to boot your machine and run the clone operation. Here's a link and again read thoroughly:
