Compatibility of Previous Backups With 2011 Version?
In the past I have had problems trying to open .tib files using a different version of ATIH than the version the .tib was created with. For example, it doesn't work to open a 2010 .tib file using 11.0, or vice versa. I think I even read once that Acronis says you should not only use the same version, but the same build within the version. Does that still hold true for ATIH2011? If so, then:
1. It's ridiculous. The new version should always be able to open older backups. Backward compatibility seems pretty fundamental to a product that is intended to help people preserve data over time.
and
2. How are you supposed to keep track of which version made which backup if they all have the same file extension name? Why call them all .tib files if they aren't really compatible with each other?

Thanks for the info. I also found a compatibility chart at http://kb.acronis.com/content/1689 I'm not sure I trust it though. I know I've tried to to open an 11.0 .tib using the 2010 boot CD and had problems. I was going to try it again now, but found that the Acronis boot CD doesn't allow you to explore archive contents. I can't test compatibility without doing a full restore, which isn't something I need to do right now.

I am having a similar problem. The bootable version of True Image Home -11 (downloaded directly from Acronis site) does not recognize .tibs created with TI Home 10. Message is "Selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home archive"

This error is most frequently seen when trying to use an older version CD to restore a backup that was actually created by a newer version.
Could there be a mixup of CD's?
On possibility would be to download the 2011 trial version and create a new 2011 CD and see if you get the same error.
The old version would need to be uninstalled before installing the newer trail version

I downloaded the TIH -11 Boot ISO (directly from Acronis) Monday. I burned the CD and immediately rebooted and ran from the CD. I did NOT install TIH-11, I ran directly from the bootable CD.
Unfortunately I recently had a serious hard disk failure. I recovered by using the TIH-10 boot disk. I have a server full of backups made with TIH-10.

Two comments:
First I hope the versions are as stated where TIH-10, and 11 are really that and not TIH-2010, 2011.
The message does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with the tib file format because of version compatibility, it can also mean that the file is unrecognizeable because of some kind of read failure related to the drivers, hardware problems, etc. TI does not embedd a version/build number in the archive so the determination of compatibility is made by trying to interpret on a broader scale what is read. I had the problem once where the disk storing the archives was getting flakey.
My experience with TI over since version TI-9 regarding backwards compatibility says that it excellent.

1. Sorry, I am too lazy. Yes 10=2010, 11=2011
2. I checked the same files with the installed version of 2010 and it had no problems. I was also able to open them with windows explorer.
I also booted a TIH 2010 boot CD and it had no problem with the files

I have a very red face. Looked at the about box, I have been using TI Home-11 thinking it was TI Home 2011.
