A Complete Mystery after using Drive Cleanser

After booting the computer (and seeing all was well, an old Dell with XP and two HDDs installed. One for boot and the other for files. BIOS settings fine) I subsequently booted from the TI install disk. All good so far. Then went to tools and activated drive cleanser. Viewed that both drives were detected. Still good. Then I selected the FILES drive only (no selection mistake-it's the much larger drive), and did a DOD erase. Later on, viewed the message that all went well. Then re-booted. The computer no longer detects either drive!!!! Both the TI software after booting from disk, and the EIDE on-board diagnostics state that no drives are present. Other EIDE devices still appear. OMG!!! What's going on?
