Computer will not shut down because of a background operation

Thread needs solution

I have seen this was an issue with older versions, but I have not seen anything for True Image 2013. Is this still an issue? If not then what is the fix I need? Appreciate any help that can be provided.

James,

With ATI 2013, when this shows up, ATI is really trying to finish something it has started. It is most of the time a scheduled task, but it could be a task you started manually. It could be a backup task or a validation task. It could be a scheduled task where the schedule time was missed because the computer was off, asleep or busy (depending on the advanced settings in the scheduler), and then it tries to run...

James,
Are you using the "disk backup options" to automatically shut the computer down after a backup?

Thank you for the replies; appreciate it.

@Pat - I figured this to be the case and from what I can gather the only thing that was running was my online sync backups. I have four critical directories that sync whenever they can and I do not bother them. So I left it on this screen and did not touch it overnight. When I woke up it was still there and I had to do a hard reboot. I have a 50 MB connection and I can usually download/upload around 5-10 GB an hour. These backups would have been around 100 MB at most since it was not a full backup (I assume it was an incremental or differential backup and I did not change but two files in the one directory). This seems to be happening on a more regular basis and it's not a huge deal, but it would be nice if there was a way around this.

@GroverH - No. This was actually a reboot from a Windows Update.

Just in case anyone arrives here expecting an answer, this still happens in the newest, 2014, version of True Image.

Acronis has never acknowledged that this is an issue. Nothing should still be running over night.

The system becomes completely unresponsive. It will not accept any keyboard intervention. Hard reboot is the only option.

We have had to put up with this for years. It wouldn't be so bad if someone were to acknowledge that it happens and to try to sort it out. Instead, this is just one reason why I will not be buying the next version of True Image. Five years of this rubbish is enough.

I too have seen it on reboot after a Windows Update. It happened to me a couple of weeks ago.

Fortunately, at least one competitor shows signs of being interested in doing something beyond maintaining the relentless annual cosmetic update.
