Congratulations on the resurrection of the Windows shutdown bug

Thread needs solution

I've forgotten how long ago I first saw this one, but yesterday's timed shutdown of Windows didn't work because of the dreaded "Things are going on..." message. Then it spent most of the day going nowhere. (I didn't get around to checking that PC, one I use to accept backups from my main machine, until late in the day.)

This failure to close problem was conclusively traced back to Acronis 2012. (Or was it even older?)

What makes me finger Acronis 2014 this time? Because it hasn't happened on a long time but yesterday I updated my version of Acronis. Nothing else had changed. Coincidence? I think not.

Am I the only one to have seen this vampire rise from the grave? Or are there others out there looking for garlic and wooden stakes?

I was interested in the update, because I am still thinking about installing Windows 8. The last time I tried it, kit failed at the final hurdle, an hour or so into the process, because, according to Windows, Acronis had done something evil to my PC.

I never did get a believable answer to that one either.

Just in case anyone doesn't believe me, or know what I am talking about, try these:

Looks like I underestimated the staying power of this specimen of the living dead.

PS Why should I have to pay to remove ads from this forum's spell checker? Is Acronis so mean that it expects to make money out of people who want to be literate?
