Corrupted archives with TI 2011 5519 (0x70020)
I got this error now too often:
"The archive is corrupted (0x70020)
Tag = 0xF5F8CBCF76155663"
This is with latest TI 2011 build 5519. Memory has checked, no errors. Disk (source and destination) are internal SATA -drives and I have run chkdsk /f for both. No luck, this "house of cards" TI 2011 is too sensitive for something.
Same time Norton Ghost 15 has no errors at all. I have been loyal TI user (I just start wondering why), but I think that 2011 is last one I ever bought or made guides/recommendations. I'm so tired of this "product".
Btw. Some days ago Acronis ask answer to "Acronus Customer Survey" and I really did, I told customer support that do not exist and so on. But Acronis can mess up surveys too and they asked two days later answer again that feedback. Well, I did not. So now you can count off my reclamation. Nice.

If you get the error you noted, it usually means that ATI cannot read the disk correctly. This is usually a problem with the disk or with memory. chekc memory by runing memtest overnight.
Chkdsk /r will find most, but not all, disk probs.
IF chkdsk uncovers any bad sectors, watch out for some new bad sectors popping up. when disk go south, often they do so by losing a few sectors, then more and more and an increasing rate.
Keep a good stock of backups of the disk when in a known good condition, or else you might only have backups made after lots of bad sectors popped up.

did you contact Acronis Tech or did you only post on this forum? This is a user forum and only gets ocassional attention form Acronis folks. It's basically just volunteers -- fellow users like you and I.

Hello,
Can you please help me?
I have the same or similar problem as discussed at the forum posts:
1. ‘9744: Backup ends with Failure 0x70020’
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/9744
2. http://forum.acronis.com/forum/15007
My error massage is:
“Operation with partition was terminated. The archive is corrupt (0x70020) Tag = 0xF6F8CBCF76166663”
I had a bad memory that apparently resulted in a corrupted backup. I understand from the post 9744 to http://kb.acronis.com/content/1517 how to test for a bad memory and such. BUT the article does not tell you what to do to recovery a corrupted backup into a partition. Can any part of a corrupted backup be recovered into a partition? The reason I ask this is because the funny thing is I can recover files and directories from the corrupted backup but not the partition … seems strange that Acronis 2012 can recover directories and files but not any part of the partition of the same corrupted backup.
My backup consists of an original backup and it’s accompanying 2 incrementals.
My question is: Can you tell me how to recover the partition partially to bypassing the corrupted area? I would assume that the small spot that is corrupted would be missing … but wouldn’t the rest of the partition be recoverable? How would one do that? The strange thing is that when I attempt the partition recovery, Acronis 2012 runs for about and hour and a half to a point where it says 54 seconds remains till completion when the recovery of the backup ends with this Failure 0x70020. It seems to me it looks like it recovered a substantial portion of the backup into a partition on my computer before the error occurs. ---- In summary: Is there, and it seems there should, be a way to recover a corrupt backup into a partition partially of my backup and its 2 incrementals?
Please respond.

Ronald,
If the archive is actually corrupted (ie, you went through the troubleshooting of archives deemed corrupted), you have virtually no way to solve the issue. In some cases, however, you might be able to extract some content from the archive. It seems you can do just that.
Try to recover your partition from the last incremental, the previous incremental, etc, working your way back to the last full until you can restore.
Then try to restore the specific folders in each incremental. You can copy paste all the files from the archive to some location and then use something like syncback to compare the contents of each top folder.
