Creating Backup Images On DVD's, TI 2009.
Newbie here, new 2009 install, XP PRO SP2 Thinkpad w internal DVD-RW, 60GB HDD 1 partition, external USB HDD. Has anyone, or does anybody use DVD media to make backup images of their drives where more than 1 DVD is required? I've read the 'don't do that' post in this forum but I'm looking for opinions when combining the use of DVD's with a USB HDD. Consider the following;
Taking a full image backup to multiple DVD's using 2GB segments. This assumes that the total backup would be larger than 2GB. If one fears that Murphy is lurking nearby you could do 2 backups or duplicate the set of DVD's. Now for a restore you would combine / copy the DVD's to create a complete image to a USB connected HDD, boot from the TI CD and complete the restore from the USB HDD. It also goes without saying that this procedure has to be thoroughly tested before any real backups are taken. So please, opinions wanted. Granted it's (1) slow & (2) more involved that using a USB HDD to backup to in the first place but DVD's IMO are easier to manage and store. Having multiple image files on the one HDD, again IMO, has risks versus having multiple sets of DVD's. However I'm not clear on the best / preferred way to combine / copy the DVD's into one image so maybe I can get some advice on that issue also. TIA for any assistance.
