creating backup of windows 8.1
I have used acronis true image (2009 and 2011) in the past and actually used them to also recover the pc to where it was when the hard drives failed.
I have a new desktop pc running windows 8.1 64 bit and did make a backup right after getting this software but I had selected the "entire pc" option.
I just noticed that there is also a disks and partitions option in addition to the entire pc option. Should I be making the backups using the Entire PC option or the Disks and Partitions option so that if I do have a hard drive problem and need to replace the hard drive I can simply put the new hard drive in, insert the disc I made and restore my pc to where it was before the hard drive failure.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks So Very Much

To answer the second part of your question, click on My account and then click on Edit, the option to have automatic notifications is there.

Thanks, I will do that now. And now to find out what the difference is between the entire pc backup and doing the disks and partitions backup. I ended up creating both - but should I have a hard drive failure and need to use my backup to get up and running again once I install a new hard drive, I need to know exactly which one I should be using.
Thanks Again :)

With a failed hard drive you need a complete disk image, especially if that is the drive that contains the OS.

Thanks! So the entire pc backup that I made is exactly what I should be doing. I thought that was correct, but I just wanted to bbe sure. Especially since in the other versions I have used in the past I was always doing an entire backup - and do not recall there being an option for disks and partitions.
Thanks Again :)

Colin, I haven't been getting notices of any further responses in threads that I post to- but I had never gone to My Account to do as you suggest- just did that and saw that automatic notifications was checked, but maybe it's necessary to go to Edit and do a Save before that option is really implemented; so I'll now see.
thanks for the tip
Joe
