Credant Encryption and ATIH 2012

Thread needs solution

I want to back up my work laptop, as they don't seem to feel it is a necessity. Apparently it is cheaper for me to spend 5 days rebuilding a crashed laptop than spend $50 on software and $100 on an external drive.
The laptop has Credant data encryption software enabled that locks up certain file types. If I take the hard drive out and put it into another computer, the drive is useless. I can live with that.
I want to be able to make a full backup of my system, with all the software I've installed and custom configured, so that if the drive takes a dump, or if the encryption keys get scrambled and can't be recovered, I can do a bare metal restore from my last backup.

I would expect that the backup would also be encrypted. That's not a problem; otherwise that would be a very wide open security flaw. But if I do a bare metal restore onto my original laptop or a duplicate machine, will the encryption be an issue?

Does Acronis play well with Credant encryption software?
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

Welcome to the forums. Because encryption software varies, I have alerted a forum team supervisor of your post. Have you purchased ATIH yet? You can try the software to see if it will meet your needs. One possible solution would be to test if files could be recovered from a mounted back up image.

Home Trial Versions

For what it's worth I have backed up and restored entire system disks with Credant protection on without any problems. Only certain files are encrypted. I don't know the behavior if the backup is restored on another machine, and I have not tried to restore an encrypted file individually.

Much thanks for your reply Pat.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your comments and thank you for your help shadowsports and Pat.

Steve, I checked our internal resources and I did not find any issues related to Credant encryption.

I would like to recommend the following for you. Please check our Knowledge Base article that explains how our program works with encryption software in general.

You can also download a trial version and test it in your environment. It is fully functional for 30 days and we offer technical support for the duration of the trial period.

In case of any issues, I would appreciate if you could post this report and your version of Credant software so that I can forward this issue to our Testing Team.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
