Critical: Try & Decide won't let me discard or apply changes.
Hi.
I wanted to try the Try & Decide feature but when I clicked to discard the changes the program asked me to restart Windows, and after I did that I have a drive icon with the red block sign that keeps saying "Try&Decide - discarding changes". If I click on that icon and I select:
"Make a Decision" -->"Apply changes" it says "Cannot apply the changes" and if I select
"Make a Decision" -->"Discard changes" and then "Restart now" it says "Cannot discard the changes".
If I open the Try&Decide wizard I can't select a thing....even if the program says "Try&Decide is off" the space "used by Try & Decide" is still increasing...so it looks like it's still working.
Since between then I made some other things I would like to apply the changes.
What should I do?

What service pack of XP, and what version and build of TI are you using?

Hi.
Thanks for the reply. I have:
- Windows XP Professional with service pack 3 and
- Acronis True Image Home 2010 (build 6.053)

Try and Decide is getting bigger and bigger (1.5GB now) and it's slowing my system a bit (but my main concern is having something that I can't disable and it's eating up my space).
I am wondering if I'll screw up my system if I'll disable True Image's services.

I haven't the faintest idea what is causing your problem.
I wouldn't stop any service just yet, as that will probably leave the boot flag that TI lays down as still valid.
First make a complete disk image, then check to see if T&D is listed as a service. If it is, change it to manual rather than automatic - you'll probably have to stop it before you attempt this.
Are you able to boot in to XP safe mode?

I have a triple boot with: 1-Windows XP, 2-Windows Seven and 3-Ubuntu 9.10.
Since Try & Decide was eating too much of my space I was working through Windows Seven.
After I read your last post, I wanted to see if I was able to boot XP in safe mode, so I tried it and yes, it booted normally.
Then for some reason I decided to boot XP in normal mode and....everything is was ok (and it still is)! No Try&Decide icon! I checked in the Try&Decide menu and the space reserved for this feature is now 0 bytes (before it was 1.5GB circa), so it seams that finally T&D stopped running (I guess it discarded all the changes since that was the first command T&D received).
Well, I don't know why, but is seams that booting XP in safe mode unlocked something that prevented T&D to function correctly.
Thank you bodgy! If you hadn't told me to boot in safe mode I would still have that problem! It was more luck then anything else, but the important thing is that it works now. ;)
Thanks again and have a nice day!!!
P.S. Is there a way I can double check that the space utilized by Try&Decide is now free? Where it stores it's files? Thank you.

With 2010 and the latest version of 2009, the T&D folder is stored as a hidden folder on your nominated drive. So if you have show hidden and systems files enabled you should be able to see it and check it's size, indeed you should be able to click inside it and see that it is more or less empty.
Early versions of 2009 and prior required the use of the SZ for T&D.

I can't find any hidden folder on my c:\ drive which is related to T&D function so it looks like everything was removed.
I looked in
-C:\
-C:\Programs\Acronis\TrueImageHome
-C:\Documents and Settings\Alain\Application Data\Acronis

I need to remove it, but cannot identify any folder as being the T&D folder.
Please be more specific so that i can identify the folder for T&D. Please give the exact folder name.
Many thanks

Hello all,
Let me clarify this situation for you.
First of all, Try & Decide data is located in the following hidden folder: C:\LoaderData
Regarding this situation with not discarded changes: I have consulted with our Experts Team and we haven't found any similar issues reported, so we would really appreciate if you could give us more information regarding the issue.
1. The exact sequence of actions that lead to the issue you report, so that I can try to reproduce it?
2. AcronisInfo tool output:
- Download the file;
- Run the downloaded file
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.
Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files along with the link to this thread. Then please provide me with the case number you receive from our system, so I can pick it up and speed up the process. We will do our best to investigate the problem and provide you with a solution.
Best regards,

I'm sorry that I am getting back to you so late, but i never checked this thread again (since my problem was fixed) and I had no email notifications for a new reply (probably I didn't activate the function to notify me when new comments are posted).
Unfortunately I don't remember much of the issue and the sequence of actions that lead to it.
Needless to say that I am now on a different working environment with windows 7 updated and a different version of Acronis True Image.
Thanks for the reply and willingness to look deeper into the issue. :)

Hi-
New here....I have HomeTrue Image 2010 and 2011 with plus pack. What I want to try is Try and Decide but do not see it as option can someone please tell me what program, version, addon(s) that I need. Do I purchase or are the included or do I need to download something else?
Sorry but could not find anything in forums to answer my question.

No further purchase is necessary as T&D is integral to 2010/11. ***edited spelling error****
In 2010 T&D is found on the side index bar.
In 2011 it is in the upper right hand corner of the main screen.

David,
If you are going to use T&D, make sure you have a full system image backup you are OK to go back to, just in case you run into trouble.
I think T&D is great if you have to try out something quickly and you don't have the time to do a full system backup.
In my personal case, it is so fast to backup my SSD that I don't use T&D at all.

Hi all-
Just quick thank you for replies to my question about T & D in Acronis 2010 and 2011. It is now sorted. Again thank you.
