Current efficacy of nonstop backup?

Thread needs solution

We run the '09 and '10 versions currently with no need to change.

However, we are upgrading one of the 2 networked machines to one with far greater power and storage. When we do so, the only reason to upgrade to the current Acronis version would be the nonstop backup feature. In the past whenever I've checked here the nonstop feature was never quite right for primetime.

Has that condition changed with the current version? Is the nonstop backup now a truly solid and well functioning feature?

Mark.

I would not upgrade for the NSB. In general, NSB is less flexible (no option to customer the backup scheme), transparent (separate archive types) and convenient (no retention rules) than normal backups. It might be more convenient to set up, but the learning curve to create a standalone backup is worth it!

My major reason for using NSB is to be able to recover previous file versions without losing work done on the files between incremental backups. In my particular case (W7, external USB backup drive), NSB continues to have problems. Acronis is aware of the issues and is working on resolving the problems.

I had seen similar problems with NSB running on Windows Small Business Server, but I no longer have current experience to know if the issues have been resolved on that platform.

If I run Win7 64 and my wife runs (in several weeks) Win7 64 and we're networked and she has an external drive (in several weeks) connected to her machine, will my machine's Acronis see her external for the purpose of writing my regular (not NSB) backup or does her drive(s) (as is the case now) need to be internal?

Mark,

Your wifes' PC will need to have the external drive marked as shared for True Image to see it I believe.

Colin,

1. Do you know how I could determine for sure simply adding the share would work?

2. If the target archive save computer has BOTH an internal and external destination, is there a way (that I haven't found) to tell Acronis to either rotate destinations or automatically copy the archive written to done drive to another?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

1. Yes simply making the drive icon a shared one will show you if it is going to work.

2. To rotate drives you will need to make two tasks one for each drive, the drive signature is used by TI task scripts to identify which drive to use in a multi drive attached system.
