Deleting old backup versions
Is there a way to delete old backup versions in ATI 2015? In ATI 2013, I could select Restore and browse my backup version by date and delete ones I did not want. I don't use the automatic cleanup feature, so I need to be able to manually delete older versions. If I delete them from the backup disk, then TIH complains that it can't find the backup (in TIH 2013 if I did that, I could tell TIH to remove the version from the list). Is there anyway to do this in 2015?
Thanks,
Richard

Excuse me from jumpimg in your thread but I have the same problem.
I am backing up to a WD external drive using incremental backups. What do I do when the external drive is full?

Continue doing more forum posting research and learn more on your subject.
----------------------------------------
Stop using your existing backup task so you do not create any more incremental backups.
For future backups, Create a new backup task using some automatic cleanup setting so future backups will auto delete on a rotating basis so the older chains get deleted automatically.

If you need storage space, consider buying a new storage disk; or, move or delete some of the existing tib backup chains. Generally speaking, you can only delete the NEWEST OR MOST RECENT incremental backups as the backup chain must remain continuous from the first to the last without any loss of tib file numbering. Or, you can keep the full and delete all incrementals.

No way to manage older backups by deleting them via a program key!!! Acronis 2015 SUCKS!

KISS Acronis ... Keep it Simple Stupid is not a concept understood by Acronis programmers.

I have two external hard drives in order to maintain two separate backups. I use one for Incremental every hour. The other is Incremental once each night (10pm). It seems that monthly Acronis loses its settings. It also does not self clean like a good oven should. When one backup config loses settings and/or does not self clean, I delete the backup scheme, format the drive, and set up a new scheme to start over. Then cannot even open the program unless I reboot. What a friggin pain. Another major issue is that I periodically check to see that backups are being done, and whala! ... it did not run a scheduled backup. Sometimes I need to completely uninstall and reinstall 2015. I upgraded from 2014, which likewise had its pains. But no more Acronis upgrades in the future for me. I'll look for a new program. Running Win 8.1, 24gig RAM Dell XPS 8700 i7. BTW, Acronis installed on another identical PC, and same issues. Acronis cannot be trusted to do backups. Now I'm going to reboot again and see if the program will open and work. If not, it's uninstall and reinstall. Holy crap Acronis.

I am new to 2015 having just updated from 2011. I must say that it is far less intuitive to use than the previous version. I struggle to find anything as there does not seem a logical menu system.
Back to my problem. I should be OK for storage as I have a 2tb external drive and my HD has only about 360gb on it. I have set up a sscheme whereby I have a full backup followed by 6 incrementals and then store no more than 4 version chains. If I am right that should leave me plenty of spare space. Would you agree?

John,
Your storage disk has usable space of 1.8 tb.
You need space for 4 full chains (chain=1 full plus 6 incrementals); plus extra space for 1 more full before any deletion will occur. Do the space calculation requirements to determine whether you have enough space.
After the first 7 backups, you can again verify whether you have adequate storage space for the remaining 3 chains plus extra full within the 1.8 tb capacity.
Do be sure that any automatic defrag is turned off as TI includes all used sectors in its backups.
TI does not perform the deletions until after the replacement full has been completed, so space must be allocated for the extra full before the deletion occurs.

A full backup is currently running at about 280mb and the incrementals at about another 20 giving 300 approx. If I am understanding you correctly then I would need 300 times 4 plus 280 giving 1480 before deletion starts. After that 5th full backup what would be deleted? Would it be the whole 1st chain so that the 1480 above would be the absolute maximum assuming my HD stayed the same size as at present.

Yes. The oldest chain of 7 files would be deleted following the 5th full as the creation of the full causes the retention goal (4 chains) to be exceeded, thus the deletion of the oldest chain occurs. The next deletion would not occur after after the next full when the newest chain becomes complete and causes the goal to again be exceeded causing the deletion.

Which wasn't very intuitive to start with. Especially wrt managing versions.
I'm so done with Acronis. Nothing but aggravation over and over again. Backup needs to be painless, not something that causes pain.

I am late to this thread, but I came here looking for a way to selectively trim back my backup set(s) with Acronis 2015, only to find that there doesn't seem to be a reasonable way to do it...
