disk cloning
ok, multipart question.
I have a Win 8.1 PC and with 2014 you couldn't do a clone from the Windows application you needed to create and boot from a 'rescue' disk to do the cloning process. Has this changed with 2015 or do I still need to create and boot etc? And if this is the case, how, just the rescue media thing from the Tools menu?

Note, an OEM machine with Secure Boot/ Windows 8.1 pre-installed combination may require the following workaround to work.
These instructions are for using a USB or external hard drive using WinPE, I don't know whether it also applies to a CD or DVD.
1. A USB/ hard drive will need to be reformatted by the following process, so whatever is on the stick will need to be saved somewhere if not using a dedicated stick.
2. As the Secure Boot (even if disabled) has a hardware certificate, this needs to be put onto the USB stick so that the UEFI will boot the stick.
3. Attach the USB device into the PC/laptop.
4. Open up the Windows Recovery utility either from Control Panel or via the tile option.
5. Select make recovery media, but untick the option to 'include the recovery folder'. Windows will now format and install booting files to the USB device.
6. Now make the True Image recovery media selecting the option to make a WIM file.
7. Once the Acronis WIM file is made you have two options.
7a. Find the two boot.wim files (one in the resources folder the other in the boot folder) rename them and copy over and rename the Acronis file boot.wim. You are done, you will now be able to boot THAT PC only or any non secure boot UEFI PC.
7b. An alternative is to leave the boot.wim files made by the Microsoft recovery utility, drag the Acronis WIM file across (it can go anywhere) and then either using BCD edit or (much easier) EasyBCD add the Acronis WIM file to the USB device boot menu, then you can select the Acronis environment.
I use 7b and have set the boot menu to pause for ever until I select an environment to boot into. I have Disk Director and AB11 on my stick as well.
Note - you must make sure you have loaded the BCD that is living on your external device and not the BCD of your PC. Otherwise things will go very wrong!
