Disk rather than partition backups take more time

Thread needs solution

Expert advice suggests a full disk backup is more reliable because of inclusion of the disk signature, and other reasons.

I have found it takes much longer. I have Win 7 29GB on C; and all my data (which I try and keep out of the clutches of windows controlled directories) 400GB on E: all together on a 1TB system disc.

Can I maintain the advantages of a disk (rather than partition) backup if I use the "exclusions" tab in the "Disk backup options" window to exclude E:\Films ? The film files and ISOs come to 360GB and I back them up in other ways.

Yes. (Assuming you get a syntax right that works to exclude the directory.)

I create full disk mode images of my multi-partition drive, but I exclude music files by excluding their extensions (*.flac, *.m4a, *.mp3) to make the backups quicker and smaller. I have hundreds of GB of music, so I don't want every disk backup to include all that. I separate run Robocopy to make regular backups of the music files.

Thanks Tuttle

The syntax is taken care of by the programme. I did wonder if it needed \*.* after the directory, but evidently not.
Thanks for your time

You're welcome. I'm glad to see that you want to create full disk mode backups, even if some user files are excluded.

If more users did that there would be fewer disasters. So often a user assumes he has all he needs because "I backed up C:", when often there are hidden partitions that are required.

A full disk mode Backup captures everything, and is the simplest, safest backup method.
