Disk space Error

Thread needs solution

I have 95 GB of free space on my externel USB hard drive which I use for backup. A full backup takes about 68 GB. I have ATIH 2012 set to do, unattended, three version chains of one full backup followed by six incremental backups then delete the first and do another so I always have three one-week backups . Now, when it tried to do the next full version I get an error message "Target drive is running out of space." and after 10 minutes "Terminated by user." I should have at least 25 GB of extra space (95 vs 68). Anyone know why this is happening?

The program will not delete the oldest backup until after the new replacement has been created and verified as readable. Thus you need additional space for the temporary additional file. This is just the way the program works. One solution would to reduce the number of recent chains kept or get a larger drive. Editing the task often causes problems. Stop the old task and start a new task pointing to an empty storage sub-folder.

I understand what you have said but I have 95 GB free and the new replacement should only take about 68 GB. So I would seem to have this "additional space."

I believe I have answered my own question. What's screwing up is the email Notifications. Let's say as an example you have it set to notify you when disk space falls below 100 GB. If the space remaining is say 95 GB the backup will fail even if the 95 GB is way more than enough space for a backup. This appears to be a design flaw and the best thing to do is to uncheck that option and set the notification to notify you if a backup fails.

Acronis, you need to fix this.
