Documentation for Restores to Dissimilar Hardware?
I just purchased True Image 2012 with the Plus Pack for a specific situation: I purchased it for a Windows XP SP3 Professional computer (32-bit OS). More than likely this machine will be running the same hardware for a few more years (seems like the parts are all still available... it was a home-built rig). However, I would like the option of restoring it to new hardware. The documentation for this appears pretty limited. I found something that suggested you need to back up the whole disk (all partitions) to avoid confusing the universal restore utility. The system disk has a non-system partition (data volume) with a lot of data that is already backed up elsewhere. I take it I can simply do a full disk backup and exclude most of the data on that partition?
What about bootable recovery media. Do I need to create anything beyond creating a disc with the Rescue Media Builder (created disc after installing the Plus Pack)?
I might test this process on another computer, but it would be nice to see complete instructions for restoring to dissimilar hardware along with tips for managing your backups to facilitate this type of recovery. The information in the Help File just isn't clear or complete.
Thank you,
Sean
