The Dreaded Windows 7 200MB Hidden Primary System Partition

Thread needs solution

Can someone give a step by step instructions (ATI 2011 Build 6868) for a "RECOVERY" when you have 200MB Hidden Primary System Partition?

The hard drive is already backed up to a TIB file. The TIB file has "BOTH" the 200MB Hidden Primary System Partition and Windows 7 C: partition.

Do I need to recover each partition at a time or can I do all of it together on my new hard drive? Do I need to resize partitions?

I will be using the ATI Recovery Console CD. If you can show by pictures that would be great!

You can recover the special partition first, then the system partition and then the MBR & disk signature. I've done' this for a successful restore with win 7.

The user guide cover the process, with pictures:

Also, Grover's guides can be very handy They're listed un "Useful Lnks" and can be found here:

-- better to read those than fish through posts here.

Scott that is far too much information to read. Your first link doesn't even have recovery for ATI 2011. It has 2012. Even though they are similar the recovery section doesn't even show instructions when dealing with "The Dreaded Windows 7 200MB Hidden Primary System Partition."

I thought having a easy to read thread on the subject will immediately help not only me but many others.

Nobody has recovered a system with the 200MB partition?

DTM,
You definitely have to backup all partitions of your system disk when you do a backup. This is the safest way for most users. If you are concerned about the size of the backup, you can still exclude folders and back them up some other way.

At restore time, if you restore the entire disk in one shot, ATI will resize the partitions proportionally. When you have hidden partitions, it is much better to control what happens.
The only concerns when you do that are:
- do not miss to mark active the active partition,
- do not change the offset before the first partition,
- do not resize any partition other than the C:\System partition or any user created partition.
- restore the MBR+Track0 last, with the disk signature.
