Drive letter problem
Hi,
I have an automatic backup scheduled that keeps 3 chains of 7 days each. The backup has the drive letter E in the path.
Every time I reboot this machine the drive letter of the usb drive changes to F which causes the backups to fail.
I can easily change the drive letter of the USB back to E but I have to keep doing it now after each reboot.
Should I just redo the backup rules with F for the path since the computer seems to want to give my USB drive the letter F every time it reboots?
Also, Acronis gives me no indication that the backup failed unless I open it and look at the log. It would be nice if it brought up an alert saying the backup failed. Is there a setting that would give me an alert?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

No, it keeps assigning it the letter F.
This is strange since when I first set it up it was set to E.
Maybe there is some way to make it stick.

It is a matter of preference but food for thought below.
If the external disk is not attached and you insert a flash drive, or turn on a mutii-purpose printer, or even have TI mount a disk, there is the chance for the External disk not to be assigned its proper drive letter.
For my own use, I assign the letters x or y or z to my externals and then point the Acronis task to the correct revised drive letter. This will necessitate new task as editing an existing task can cause unpredictable results.
Create the new task & point to a new drive letter and also point to a new sub-folder inside the external. My recommendation is not to mix the contents of several tasks into one folder. Acronis says it is ok but my experience is that you have less issues when each task points to its own folder.

GroverH is right, assign a drive letter way down the alphabet so that there is no conflict.

GroverH,
I encountered a bit different problem and I read your useful guide: http://forum.acronis.com/sites/default/files/mvp/user285/guides/tih2012… but unfortunately it didn't help me. In the past I used Acronis TI 10 but I recently bought a new computer and started using the TI Western Digital software (downloaded from: http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119).
My original HD has (in this sequence) an 100 MB Unlabeled partition, 300 GB Boot C:-drive, 590 GB unallocated space (I 'll explain...), 40 GB Recover D:-drive and 1 GB OEM-partition. My original idea was to add a data-partition but that was not possible since the drive had already four primary partitions. So I decreased the original C:-drive in order to add this space to the current D:-drive and to change D: in a logical drive.
However - before doing this, I wanted to make sure that I could recover the boot-drive from an Acronis-backup. I made the backup and tried to recover it. However - in the recovery-screen of the TI the drive letter was changed to D... As you pointed out elsewhere, in Linux the C:-drive is shown as D:. My question is: are you sure I can do the recovery without risk? Will the computer still boot after recovery? Or do I need to change the drive letter from D to C again, after recovery? How should I do that? The WD-software doesn't have that function?
Thanks in advance,
Steef

Hi GroverH,
I solved the problem already, after changing the partitioning of the harddisk by EaseUS. And yes, it worked, both backup and recovery. Anyway, I 'm still convinced that the Acronis products are great - thanks.
