Hello Gerhard,

No worries, I will help you out.

Our product works fine with dual boot systems. Furthermore, the simple data recovery procedure is not depended on dual or non dual booted systems, so it appears that this behavior is caused by other reason.

Could you please provide me with some more details of your recovery?

1. Which Acronis product do you use? Could you please let me know the build number of the product, which you can find in the Help -> About dialog (it should be a 3 or 4 digit number)?

2. What exact information are you trying to recover? What is the size of the data?

3. Do you receive any error messages during the recovery (please provide me with the exact text, if any)?

4. Could you please provide me with the exact sequence of actions that lead to the issue you report, so that I can try to reproduce it?

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Best regards,

Hello, I am using Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack. I have two OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I have 4 HD, RAID disable (2X149GB and 2X239GB). OS Vista on primary disc 1 – 149GB, Windows 7 – on primary disc 3, I also have 2 logical partitions on 2 independent HD 230 GB each. Acronis was installed on Vista. When I tried to recover my Vista from backup archive, I could not put this image on the same physical drive. Acronis offered me to put this image on any of those 3 HD, except the one I wanted to. The same thing happened when I wanted to recover Windows 7. It looks like I’ve made a mistake in system setup, but I don’t know how to correct it. I have 2 independent archives for system contains Vista and system contains Windows 7 and one archive for both systems, made from Acronis installed on Vista. Right now, with the setup I have, Acronis is useless, while I cannot restore one system on the same drive (on itself). I have no idea where should I start from to have the ability to work with 2 OS and feel secure in using Acronis backups.

Hello Irina,

I'll do my best to help you.

Have you tried to restore your image using a special ISOLINUX-based bootable media?

You can download that new media in your account:

  1. Log in to your account (if you do not have one, you will need to create it);
  2. Once logged in, click My Products & Downloads:

  3. Scroll down to the registered product and click Bootable Media:

  4. Click Download:

  5. Acronis Bootable Media will be downloaded as an ISO file. See Burning an ISO Image.

Please reply to this thread if the issue is not fixed, I'll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you.

Thank you, Ilya, but that was the way I recorded my Acronis bootable media. The problem is, that I don't have an option to put Vista (for example) from archive on Vista's drive (let say on C drive). I never had dual operation system before, and never expected to have a problem with 2 independent HDs containing those systems. Now to restore one system from archive I only have a choice to clear the other partition and put it on that physical disk, then, probably, I may have an option to restore another system to new drive. It's a headache. Or I have to restore 2 systems at once.

Is that possible to write that story in Russian? I may have a better chance to explain the problem in details.

Hello Irina,

I'm really sorry, but official support forum language is English only. However, you can use our Live Chat at this link that has Russian-speaking support engineers.

Thank you.

That's fine, I can understand English.
Do you think it will be better to contact support team with the question I have for dual system and Acronis restore options?
