E00070021: Cannot access drive

Thread needs solution

I am running XP and Acronis® True Image Home® version 10.0 (build 4,942). All was working fine until a couple of weeks ago, when I started getting the following error message when I try to do a backup:

E00070021: Cannot access drive.
Cannot create the image of the logical drive C: because it is currently in use by running applications or the logical drive contains bad sectors

I have rebooted. Run "chkdsk /r". Updated the snapapi.dll. Still having the problem.

Macrium has no difficulty making an image of the system, while it is running. Not sure what is causing True Image's difficulty.

Any idea how to get True Image working again?

Thank you,
Ira

To gain further information on what's happening, try creating the backup after booting from the bootable Rescue Media. If that works without issue, then I'll suspect that some Windows issue is occurring.

I have been having the same issue for more than 1 year, and as a result I have not been making any more backups.......Very Bad I know.  I am using Acronis True Image Home, Version 10.0 (build 4.871).

When attempting the same full disk image that I have always been able to do successfully from within Windows XP SP3, I get the following error:

E0070021: Cannot access drive.

Cannot create the image of the logical drive 1-1 because it is currently in use by running applications or the logical drive contains bad sectors.

I have run Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics full disk tests and there are no bad sectors on the disk. According to SMART data there are not even any pending reallocation or reallocated sectors at all.

I am not able to make the backup from the Rescue Disk either, and disabling NIS Ver. 18.7.2.3 does not help either. This is really unacceptable.

Does anyone have an answer for this? I think that the fact that the previous poster was able to make a backup from within Windows using Macrium was not really fairly addressed, and I am about to do the same thing, ie. switch to Macrium or Ease US or the like, but I paid for this program and I shouldn't have to do that.
