email backup file size
When using email backup, the file size is 148 kb, way too small. I use Outlook and ticked that box, but when backing up the Outlook folders doing a file backup I get 2.2 GB file size which looks more real. Why is email backup file size so small? I have tried it a few times now.
Thanks Scott, I think I'll forget using the email back up tab and play it safe using a file backup. I hope Acronis can make email backup more foolproof, because if you don't check the file size, you can get the false impression that you have backed up. Something is wrong somewhere.
Unfortunately, email/outlok backup has had this or that prob since its inception. It works for some folks but the more reliable thing is to grab the partition. There are times when I've mucked up a program one way or another and just restoring the partition is easier than trying to uninstall/reinstall. I do a separate file backup of some document and settings directories on an xp machine to capture, among other things, the outlook archive but that's just a secondary backup of data, I always have the whole partiton backed up and 99 times out of a 100, that's the backup I'll resort to -- it's easier than hunting for which files to backup and where to put them ;)
I've been trying to get a full BU of my wife'w outlook file. When I look in the Outlook folder I see that the only PST file she has is the Outlook.pst file and it is 797MB. When I installed Outlook 2010 on her system she did not want an archive file and I used the folder location as it was in Outlook 2007. I've created several different BU task in the test and only two created a BU tib file with a size of about 600MB all of the files were about 112KB.
Thus I assume that TI is creating an incremental and not a full BU.
I just attempted to backup only the folder containing the PST file, on the system it is 770MB, the resulting tib file is 64GB - it appears that I did something wrong.
I just confirmed that the sizes as posted in my previous post are correct, and TI is backing up the correct folder. At this point I give up on creating a BU of just Outlook and will rely on the full BU. In the past I've pulled what I needed from the full BU. A bit more pain but at least it works.
