Email Backup issues

Thread needs solution

Have tried using Other Backup to back up my Outlook Express email folder but keep getting an error message saying back up failed. I'm wanting to do this as I'm building a new system an want to restore my emails and address book. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong. Have tried different settings but nothing works. Thanks Gerry

Since you will restore the email backup to another system, I recommend against the email backup. Simply backup the outlook express files. When you have your new system, if it supports Outlook Express, you can set up your accounts and then move the old files on top of the new files.

Thank Pat L fr your suggestions. If my new system doesn't supprt Outlok Express do I have any other options for saving my emails? Thanks in advance. Gerry

Outlook Express no longer exists as an actively supported application. As such, it is not included in Win7 nor Win8.

Outlook Express does include various data export options. You can choose one of them to export what you want, then import into your new mail app.

You may even need an intermediary step if your new app doesn't import any formats exported by Outlook Express: so, export from Outlook Express, import to some other app which can then export to a format readable by your new app. It sounds tediious, but you need do it only once. I've had to use an intermediary app a couple of times in the past for clients who moved from a mail app whose export formats weren't supported by their new app.
