error e00010001 failed to activate acronis bootable agent

Hello, all
I am using acronis home edition 10 on a windows xp, sp3. I have tried to use the recovery programme within windows, and everything goes well until it is time to reboot. i then get the message error e00010001: failed to activate acronis bootable agent.
Attempt to use null reference.
Although I can use the recovery programme from the bootable cd, this take far longer to do than directly within windows. I have encountered this problem before, and have been able to work around it by reinstalling Acronis home 10. This time, however, it does not work. any help would be appreciated.
