error when recovering win xp pro with universal restore

when i try recover a backup containing windows xp pro with sp3 to a new system using universal restore i get a restore_aw_assistant.exe error amongst others. i have tried specifying the directory location for all drivers and even the i386 folder on a win xp pro cd but still this error comes up. any ideas?
