An exception occurred while trying to run"shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll"

Thread needs solution

Ever since I started using Acronis I get this error message after trying to stop and disconnect my external HD using the "Safely Remove Hardware' button on the taskbar: An exception occurred while trying to run"shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll" I just installed True Image 2010 to WindowsXP Pro w/SP3. I've looked at many other review/forum postings that mention this error but didn't see any good fix. Any ideas?

Just a thought. Do you have a secure zone on the removable disk?

Hello all,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

Please do the following to solve the issue:

- Go to Device Manager (Right-click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager

- Click Show Hidden Devices (View -> Show Hidden Devices)

- Unfold Storage volumes, right-click on each Generic volume -> Update driver (Choose Install from a list or specific location (advanced) -> Choose Don't search. I will choose the driver to install -> Make sure that Show compatible hardware is checked then press Next).

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

SOLVED
an exception occurred while trying to run shell32.dll control_rundll hotplug.dll
In device manager VIEW menu click to "show hidden devices"
Expand "Storage volumes"
You should see a few line of "Generic volume"
I had a corrupted one on the last line. It read "Generic volumeM"
I was worried I would have to delete it from the registry to prevent it from being installed again but I just deleted it, rebooted and problem was solved.
