File Backup fails to backup My Documents - TIH 2013 (build 3028)

Thread needs solution

I wanted to set up a simple TIH 2013 job to backup everything in the My Documents folder. I ran TIH as Administrator, selected ‘Other backups’ > ‘File backup’, navigated to ‘C:\Users\\Documents’, selected ‘My Documents’ and clicked ‘Back up now’. The job ran without error.

The job completed quickly and the resulting tib file was suspiciously tiny, so I checked the log. The only message remotely like an error was the warning ‘The following link target was not backed up: C:\Users\\Documents’ with (I assume) an error code of 0xCE542E14DA203B4A.

So, in summary, I ran a simple job to backup my key files. It ran but produced no error messages and, more importantly failed to backup anything. Had I not known to test backup jobs then I might have easily assumed it had worked, with potentially disastrous results.

Searching the Acronis Forums produced nothing of much help other than a similar, but unanswered, post. The error message is pretty unhelpful and the error number is not listed on the Acronis web site, or indeed anywhere else on the Web (according to Bing and Google).

Anyone any idea what’s going on?

Peter,

When you right click on the My Documents folder, choose the location tab, what is the path shown there?

Pat

Many thanks for the prompt response.

The My Documents location is ‘C:\Users\\Documents’.

I ran a backup at the next level up, ie ‘C:\Users\’. It backed up some folders in My Documents but not all. It also did not backup My Music and My Pictures.

The picture emerging seems to be how TIH handles symbolic links. Any advice on this?

If this is a Win 7 system, the path to the documents should be
c:\users\user name\documents.
and be sure the documents folder is checked.

build 3028 is an older build. The 5510 is the current build for 2013.

Peter,

When you write

do you really mean it as is? Normally there is a user name in the path...

Exactly my thoughts.

You might want to try to use the libraries to see if that would catch the right content.
