File retrieval from full backup

Thread needs solution

I have a question about ATIH 2010 vs 2012. I've switched to the latter on Acronis' advice (hoping to solve an online backup issue), but I now either don't see how or cannot restore from local backup as I used to.

Last week I made a backup to an external drive which is labelled "Disk backup" and should be my C drive, and subsequently wanted to recover a single file from it. However, I do not see any recovery options except the "Recover" button, and after clicking it I don't see any options for selecting single files. Soon the recovery program was apparently about to embark on retreating my computer entirely to last week, so I hit cancel.

With 2010 the procedure was straightforward, or at least I learned what it is. What am I missing with 2012?

I don't have a lot of experience with the program myself, but earlier I was poking around and managed to open up the 'backup' file by double-clicking it (using Windows 7). Then I navigated around just like I was on my actual hard drive. Is it possible to cut & paste a file right out of the backup? I didn't try, but I'm going to.

Yep, when ATIH is installed you can explore .tib archives using Windows Explorer. From there, you can copy individual files or drag them from the archive to your hard drive, just as when using Windows Explorer on normal folders.

Charles, you have different ways of retrieving a single file from a disk backup:
- from Windows, double click on the TIB file. The drive letters might be different from Windows. Copy and past the file out of there,
- from Windows, mount the TIB file. Then use Windows explorer to copy and past the file,
- from Windows, in ATI, select explore versions from the gear menu. Select the date in the bottom time line, select the file/folder tab above, navigate to your file, select it, choose recover,
- from the recovery CD, choose to recover only file and folders.

Charles and Thomas, See if this pdf helps. It covers the routine copy & paste and mounting.   Let me know what you think. Thanks
