First attempt to restore hard drive with Acronis TIH 2011...

Thread needs solution

I've been a Ghost 14 user for years and was stunned when my Ghost software failed to deliver when my drive crashed a few months ago.

I switched to Acronis TIH with the encouragement of a friend who uses the software. Everything has been working great until my hard drive crashed _big time_. Now, in my 7th consecutive day of restoring, I'm still unable to restore my hard drive using Acronis.

It's very SLOW after being assured a restore will be 2 hours, it's averaging between 6 and 7 1/2 hours per restore. Worse, the restored hard drive images have all been un-bootable until this last "restore." And that's a mess - there are no icons on the desktop and no software is found in the START | All Programs. Accidentally, I did learn that my 'software' is found in the C:\Program Files folder but it needs lots of work to restore it to working order. You can't just click on it to start a software.

Acronis: This is not what I'm looking for in a "backup" program at all. What experience has anyone else had with Acronis and can it be explained what is going on with my "restores"? Why is the restore time so Slow?? Why don't the numerous restores work?? Sheeezz...

Hi jpark,
Welcome to the forum which is maintained mostly for volunteers.

If your backup is a complete backup of all partitions (including any partitions without drive letters), then TrueImage should be able to create a bootable replacement drive usually with very little hassle.

If your computer is a desktop, plug the usb into a connector on the back of the case. Using a usb-hub can slow down things. Try using a different cable.

Restoring from the TI bootable media recovery CD is the best restore method. For more general help, click on the first line of my signature below in red. How to's for backup and restores are listed there.
