Followup on DriveCleanser Brick and Recovery Discussion

Thread needs solution

Last week I asked for help to 'unbrick' my 1TB Toshiba portable USB drive after I ran DriveCleanser in TIH 2013 and the program hung up.

I got the help I needed, and was able to recover my drive. Thanks again to those in this forum who told me what to do, here's the link if you are interested

Since then I've gone on to DriveCleanse another external USB drive, and the program completed successfully. Once again DriveCleanser left the disk unusable until it was formatted using DISKPART or equivalent utility, which was not unexpected. (The good news is that I can now perform these operations without reading the instructions given to me last time. And once you know what to do, it's not a big deal.)

The interesting thing is that in reading the documentation for TIH 2013 (just call me old-fashioned), there is supposed to be a Post-Wiping action screen which comes up before you press the final button to actually wipe the drive. This is on page 210 of the manual, section 8.8.1.3 where you are given three choices for post-processing: No Action, Delete Partition, or Format.

My copy of TIH 2013 does not display this screen or warn me that "Note that the wiped partitions will be unusable until formatted." That warning is shown in the screen shot on page 210, but as I said, I never was presented with that screen.

So either I have missed something (quite possible) or this is a feature that is/was supposed to be incorporated into the program that's MIA. It would have saved me several days of effort in trying to figure out what's going on, asking for help, and then taking advantage of that help, because I would have (obviously) selected "Format" and wouldn't have experienced a 'bricked' hard drive.

I've also done an Acrobat search on the entire manual for the work "DISKPART" which is the utility one uses to unbrick the drive before formatting. The only place in the manual where this is referenced is in the section of SSDs. So I don't think I've missed a notification that would tell me I need to format the drive after wiping.

Again, unless I've missed something, Acronis should either activate that screen or display a warning notice, or fix the manual to warn users about what to expect when they get done with their Cleansing.
