Full Backup now what?

Thread needs solution

I just finished doing a "full backup" of my " C" drive and the " System Reserved" G drive on the WD "My Book" 3 T USB 3.0 drive.

The goal is to have something to fall back upon if Windows 8 crashes or get corrupt or the HD fails.

My question is what are the next steps that I will need to do if I want completely recover Windows 8 Pro to its original state?

For example...will I need to make :

1) Windows Recovery disc?
2) a bootable disc suing the True Image software?

Lastly the reason I am asking, is I see many people on this forum wanting to complete a simple task, but it ends up being not only a failure but extremely complex and not simple at all.

Thanks in advance

Create the ATI2013 bootable Recovery Media (Rescue Media). Boot from it to see if all your hardware is recognized, and try restoring a couple of files. If you ever need to restore a full backup image, you'll use the bootable Recovery Media (Rescue Media).

It would also be worthwhile to create a Windows Repair Disc.

You should always have a Windows 8 system repair disk, or at least the Windows installation media (DVD or Flash drive based).
Here are instructions on how to create a Windows 8 system repair CD/DVD, or Flash drive, if you do not have bootable installation media: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2855-system-repair-disc-create-win…
Method 1 (in step two creates a CD/DVD, and method 2 (in step 3), creates a Flash drive if you have one installed. (Do not remove the flash drive from your system as suggested in the web article.)

You also need to create your Acronis Rescue Media (CD/DVD/Flash drive). Acronis Rescue Media is needed if you want to restore to a new drive, or if you OS is not bootable, and you need to restore your system from your backup files. As a general rule, if you are restoring your entire OS drive, it is always best to do so from the Rescue Media.

The Rescue Media can also be used to backup and validate, as well as restore. This gets Windows out of the way, and provides an additional method for you to be able to backup your system, in case you can not boot to it, and need to recover files later.

Thanks everyone ok... I do not have a Windows 8 Pro DVD, it was downloaded as an upgrade from the Windows 8 store...hence the need to have a backup and whatever else I will need, just in case.

So ok..

1) create ATI2013 bootable Recovery Media
2) create a Windows Recovery/rescue disc...

Is there a way after this to do a "dry run" to test it, to test its viability?

Thanks again!!

Yes, as I already recommended: Boot from it to see if all your hardware is recognized, and try restoring a couple of files.

Boot to the Acronis Rescue media and restore a few files from your backup, to a new location on your drive. If you can do that successfully you should be able to restore the entire image if necessary.

PS,

You should still be able to download an ISO image of the Windows 8 Pro installation DVD at no charge from Microsoft.
Go here: http://web.esd.microsoft.com/W8DL/WSEC5B1D8A9DFDFD92DFB736C5B1D8956B5B1…
and choose to create an ISO after the download is finished.
You can also check your Windows 8 purchase confirmation email for a download link for Windows 8.
You can then use the Windows 7 USB-DVD ISO tool (works in Windows 8, too) to create a DVD or bootable Flash drive
