Full backup or incremental?

Thread needs solution

I have backed up my c-drive using Acronis True Image 9.1 and chose the option : "Create new full backup archive" as opposed to "Create incremental backup" but I still got the backup listed on my external HDD as 12 separate incremental .tib files of 4194304 KB plus a 13th .tib file of 1413325 KB. i.e. nearly 52 GB even though my c-drive shows still only 23 GB full out of nearly 60 GB.

Q1. Should I be really getting 13 separate incremental .tib files rathder than 1 initial larger .tib backup file? If not, why not?

Q2. Why is the backup of size 52 GB even though only 23 GB is used up in my c-drive?

The reason for the split is that your external drive is formatted as Fat32 and not as NTFS.  As for why the total is 52Gb, did you select the "Sector by Sector" option?  Otherwise I don't know the reason for that.  Usually the Image would be between 60 to 70 percent of the used space.

I have converted the external HDD to NTFS and then used Acronis to create a new full back up from scratch and all is well. A single .tib file has been created of size 18.3 GB, leaving about 80% free space on the external HDD.
